Helium 10 Alternative for PPC: Ad Badger vs Helium 10

Helium 10 is a full Amazon seller suite product research, keyword research, listing tools, inventory, profit tracking and advertising is one module inside it, called Helium 10 Ads (renamed from Adtomic). Ad Badger is not a suite. It does one job: automate bids, negatives, and keyword harvesting on Amazon PPC. If you are searching for a Helium 10 alternative because you want a lighter full suite, Ad Badger is not that. If you are searching because the advertising part is the part that has to work harder, that is the whole comparison.

That distinction is the reason most “Helium 10 alternatives” lists are useless to advertisers. They compare suites to suites and never separate the ad platform from everything wrapped around it.

Table of Contents

First, a correction almost every comparison still gets wrong

Adtomic is now called Helium 10 Ads. Helium 10 renamed its advertising platform, and the old product page now serves Helium 10 Ads content. Most articles ranking for “Helium 10 alternative” right now still call it Adtomic — which tells you how recently those pages were actually checked.

The lineage matters more than the name. Helium 10 Ads is built on Prestozon, the PPC platform Helium 10 acquired. Prestozon’s own team describes its history as “sophisticated analytics, bid automation, keyword harvest rules and automation, and an easy-to-use campaign builder,” and credits it with pioneering Search Term Isolation — the practice of moving a converting search term out of an automatic campaign into its own exact-match target. That is now standard practice across the industry, including at Ad Badger.

So this is not “big suite versus real PPC tool.” Both platforms trace back to serious PPC engineering. They diverge on scope and on how much of the decision you keep.

What Helium 10 Ads actually does

Verified from Helium 10’s own product and launch material:

  • Campaign Builder with two modes — a Basic Builder for the most direct path to live campaigns, and a Guided Builder with more flexibility and advanced options. Templates are keyed to a product’s lifecycle stage, so a brand-new launch gets a different structure than an established ASIN.
  • Target rules engine, which Helium 10 calls “the most flexible available,” driving targeting and bid changes.
  • Bidding algorithms including Max Impressions and Max Orders, selected according to whether you are launching a product or liquidating it.
  • Suggestions page for keyword harvesting, with a column showing when each keyword was surfaced as a suggestion.
  • Ad Manager for campaign-level control and rule setup.
  • Analytics, including a Search Term Level tab with a Keywords Breakdown view.

Around that sit the rest of Helium 10’s tools — Black Box and Xray for product research, Cerebro and Magnet for keyword research, Keyword Tracker, Listing Analyzer and Listing Builder, Profits, Inventory Management, Alerts, Market Tracker, and Search Query Analyzer for brand SQP data. Helium 10 also runs beyond Amazon into Walmart and TikTok, and now ships a Helium 10 MCP so AI tools can connect to your Amazon data.

That breadth is genuinely the product. It is also the thing you are choosing when you choose Helium 10.

What Ad Badger actually does

Ad Badger is deliberately narrow it is a PPC optimization engine, not a seller suite:

  • Bids by Badger, a proprietary bid algorithm that reads your conversion data and responds with daily micro-adjustments toward a target ACoS. It currently improves the revenue of nearly 2 million bids a day.
  • Negative Keyword Target Nightly Hunt, which runs every night against your search terms, plus pre-built automations — Block Bad CTR Non-Converters, Block High Spend Non-Converters, Block High-Click Non-Converters — and a Never-Negative list so you keep veto power over what gets blocked.
  • Positive Keyword Target Nightly Hunt, which graduates proven search terms out of automatic campaigns into exact or phrase match ad groups.
  • Search Term Quick Attack and Search Term Duplicate Hunter for filtered discovery, keyword addition, and duplicate cleanup.
  • Reporting built for diagnosis rather than dashboards: Total Sales Per Product, Total ACoS alongside Ad ACoS, organic sales, ad spend, advertising trend comparisons over time, a Bid Health Factor score from 1 to 6, multi-year history, and CSV/JSON export.
  • Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, and Sponsored Display across 20+ international marketplaces.
  • 1-on-1 coaching with PPC specialists, office hours, and monthly customer webinars — a human, not a help doc.

What Ad Badger does not do: product research, listing optimization, inventory forecasting, review requests, profit accounting. If those matter to you, Ad Badger is a component in your stack, not the stack.

What you are actually choosing between

Strip the feature lists away and the decision is about where the judgment lives.

Helium 10 Ads is built to absorb decisions. Templates decide your campaign structure by lifecycle stage. Bidding algorithms carry names that describe an outcome — Max Impressions, Max Orders — and you pick the outcome rather than the mechanics. Their own framing is a racecar “pre-built to win, but with the wrenches included.” That is an honest description, and for a lot of sellers it is exactly right: you have twelve other jobs, and PPC just needs to not be on fire.

Ad Badger is built to expose decisions. A Bid Health Factor tells you how well the bid is set, not just what it changed to. A Never-Negative list exists because the automation assumes you sometimes know better than it does. Total ACoS sits next to Ad ACoS because the interesting question is what ads did to the whole business, not to the ad account — which is the same reason TACoS deserves its own metric and why ACoS on its own can mislead you.

Neither is the better philosophy in the abstract. They are better for different people.

Who should switch from Helium 10 to Ad Badger

You are already paying attention to PPC and want more leverage on it. You read search term reports. You have opinions about match types. You want automation that shows its work and lets you override it — see how close variants are reshaping keyword auctions for the kind of nuance that only matters if you are close to the account.

Advertising is the largest lever left in your business. If product research is done and your listings are solid, most of a suite sits idle while the ad account is where the money moves.

You want the ad account diagnosed, not just managed. Bid Health Factor, Total vs Ad ACoS, multi-year history and raw exports exist to answer why. If you have ever built your own bidding system in a spreadsheet, you already want this.

You sell across many marketplaces. 20+ marketplaces, and international PPC has failure modes of its own that generic automation handles badly.

You want a human. 1-on-1 coaching with a PPC specialist is a different thing from a course library.

Who should stay on Helium 10

Being honest about this is the point of the page.

You are still finding products. Black Box and Xray have no Ad Badger equivalent. Nothing in a PPC tool replaces product research.

Your listings are the bottleneck. Ads amplify a listing; they do not fix one. If conversion rate is the problem, Listing Analyzer and Listing Builder are the tools you need.

You want one login for everything. Consolidation is a real benefit, and splitting a stack has real overhead.

You are expanding to Walmart or TikTok. Ad Badger covers Amazon marketplaces. Helium 10 goes cross-channel.

You are new to selling and to PPC. Freedom Ticket and stage-based campaign templates are a genuinely good on-ramp. Come back to bid-level control when you have data worth optimizing — our Amazon PPC guide and keyword research basics will still be here.

A note on running both: plenty of sellers do. Helium 10 for research and listings, a dedicated PPC platform for the ad account. It is not a contradiction — it is just deciding which tool owns which decision.

Other Helium 10 alternatives worth knowing

If you are comparing more broadly, these come up most often. Verified from each vendor’s own material:

Perpetua — retail-media automation with goal-based campaign management (growth, profitability, brand defense, awareness), conversion-based bidding, automated campaign creation, display and video advertising, plus Market Intelligence reporting, Digital Shelf Insights and incrementality measurement across Amazon, Walmart and other marketplaces. Enterprise-leaning. We wrote a longer piece on Perpetua alternatives.

Teikametrics — multi-marketplace growth across Amazon, Walmart and TikTok Shop: port listings between marketplaces, unify campaigns and inventory, full-funnel campaigns built on audience insights, generative-AI listing population, shareable dashboards, and marketplace experts plus a managed-services option. Closer to Helium 10’s breadth than to Ad Badger’s depth.

Jungle Scout — the comparison Google’s own People Also Ask surfaces against Helium 10, and a suite-vs-suite question rather than a PPC one. Relevant if you are choosing a research platform, not an ad platform.

How to decide in about ten minutes

  1. Name the bottleneck. Products, listings, or ads? If it is not ads, a PPC tool will not fix it.
  2. Open your search term report. If you see converting terms still sitting in automatic campaigns and non-converters still eating spend, that is harvesting and negation — the exact job Nightly Hunt automates. Our PPC audit walkthrough shows how to read it.
  3. Check Total ACoS against Ad ACoS. A widening gap means ads are carrying organic — or failing to. Suites rarely put those side by side.
  4. Check your attribution window. Before blaming any platform, know that 14-day windows quietly distort decisions.
  5. Decide how much control you want. Then pick the philosophy, not the feature list.

FAQ

Is Adtomic the same as Helium 10 Ads?

Yes. Helium 10 renamed Adtomic to Helium 10 Ads; the old Adtomic URL now serves Helium 10 Ads content. The platform is built on Prestozon, which Helium 10 acquired. Most comparison articles still use the old name.

Is Ad Badger a full Helium 10 replacement?

No, and it is not meant to be. Ad Badger replaces the advertising module. It has no product research, keyword research, listing, or inventory tools. If you need those, keep a suite or pair the two.

Can I use Ad Badger and Helium 10 together?
Yes — this is common. Helium 10 for product research and listings, Ad Badger for bids, negatives, and keyword harvesting.

Which is better for Amazon PPC specifically?

Depends on how involved you want to be. Helium 10 Ads leans on templates and outcome-named algorithms to absorb decisions. Ad Badger exposes bid-level logic — Bid Health Factor, Never-Negative lists, Total vs Ad ACoS — for advertisers who want to steer. Both automate; they disagree about how much you should see.

Does Ad Badger work outside the US?

Yes — Sponsored Products, Brands, and Display across 20+ international marketplaces.

Does Ad Badger do product research like Black Box or Xray?
No. It is a PPC optimization platform only.

What does Ad Badger automate that I would otherwise do by hand?

Nightly negative and positive keyword hunts across your search terms, daily micro bid adjustments toward a target ACoS, duplicate search term cleanup, and reporting that puts Total ACoS next to Ad ACoS.

The honest summary

Helium 10 is a wide platform with a capable ad module inside it. Ad Badger is a deep ad platform with nothing else inside it. Advertisers who want the ad account to be the thing that gets better tend to prefer the second; sellers who need the whole business in one login tend to prefer the first.
